WOOL CARDIGAN: 100% PORTUGUESE

Preserving the Portuguese wool tradition with Rosa Pomar.

This is one of those pieces that we are darn proud to put out. Our Wool Cardigan is ISTO.’s first 100% Portuguese and fully traceable piece, made in collaboration with Rosa Pomar.

As a 100% Portuguese initiative, partnering with them felt like a natural choice: they share our commitment to quality, transparency, and responsible production.

By making yarn from native Portuguese sheep breeds and working directly with the farmers who raise them, they are helping preserve a centuries-old industry that is gradually disappearing, proving that local materials, traditional skills, and thoughtful craftsmanship still have a place in the future of fashion.

Over a year in the making, the wool comes from a flock of Campaniça sheep, a breed native to Southern Alentejo. Sheared in spring last year, it was sorted, washed and combed (the fibres aligned, much like combing hair), then spun near Covilhã.

The yarn is undyed, so the colour is the sheep’s own. It was washed once more for softness, then knitted at Madalena Beça, a family-owned knitwear mill in Penafiel.

This is a truly special piece, and we hope that you’re as proud as us to wear something that respects and honors the beauty of the Portuguese wool-making tradition and craftsmanship.
