BICHO-CARPINTEIRO

In Portuguese, people who can't stay put têm bicho-carpinteiro. They have the carpenter bug. This is our take on carpenter wear, for everyone who has it.

FOR PEOPLE WHO CAN'T STAY STILL

You know the type. They finish one project already sketching the next. Where others see a pause, they see a gap worth filling. In Portugal we don't call it ambition. We call it
bicho-carpinteiro, and nobody has found a cure. We're not looking for one.

Ours shows up as new shirts, new shops and long dinners that turn into new plans. Yours might be a business, a workshop, a kitchen or a blank canvas.

So we went back to the clothes built for work, the carpenter's jacket and the carpenter's jean, and made them for people whose work never quite stops: the entrepreneurs, the makers, the restless.

Generous cuts, honest fabrics and pockets that earn their place.

WORN FIRST BY VASCO, JOÃO & RUI

When we asked ourselves who should wear it first, the answer took about three seconds. Vasco Coelho Santos, chef and founder of Euskalduna Studio in Porto, and João and Rui, his partners in every opening. Three different people with one shared habit: they never stop.

We found them at Seixo, their project in the Douro with Sandeman, from Sogrape. The light did what Douro light does. Getting them to stand still for a photograph was the hard part.

  • The jackets are cut from a 450 g/m2 cotton canvas, 75% recycled cotton and 25% cotton. Most of the fibre has already lived one life, so far less new cotton had to be grown.

  • The jeans are made from Candiani denim in 100% organic cotton, grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers. It starts out light and gets better the more you wear it.

  • The label. Each piece carries a woven label that reads Bicho-Carpinteiro. A small Portuguese joke sewn into the seam, and a quiet reminder that sitting still was never the plan.
