Last week, we headed south to experience the perfect blend of luxury and village charm. Knowing our friends' flair for hospitality from following the inception of their Lisbon hotel, we were eager to see what magic they had cooked up. Turns out it's truly the place to be.

Comporta has a stunning landscape, featuring beautiful beaches, sun-drenched weather and a sense of calm that you can hardly feel anywhere else. It's in the coastal area of Alentejo, Portugal — and that says it all.

Spanning 12 hectares, the property is home to 34 beautifully designed courtyard villas and a 40-key hotel that promises an unforgettable stay. Fact check: it was indeed memorable.

The hotel’s main restaurant, Maroto, offers a cheeky twist on Alentejo cuisine, complemented by a forward-thinking wine menu and regionally-inspired cocktails. But, this time, the pool was calling us and we couldn't resist. We ended up indulging ourselves in freshly shucked oysters, a delicious burger and wood-fired pizza at the next-door Bóia bar.
