The city where coffee is treated like craft, where pastry is practically a religion, and where chefs casually redefine Nordic cooking on a weekly basis. Copenhagen has a way of turning even the simplest meal into a minor revelation. The best thing you can do is enjoy the ride, and preferably paired with somewhere to park your bike.
With help from Copenhagen local (and food enthusiast) Anders Trasborg Thomsen, we curated a list that feels just right:
A modern city inn with strong Nordic roots. Most produce comes from the chef’s daughter’s farm. Possibly the best value-for-money meal in town.
Fresh, local seafood served in clever-but-comforting ways. Sit down for dinner or stand at the bar with an aperitif and let the Meatpacking District energy do the rest.
Part beer bar, part gourmet restaurant — entirely its own thing. Don’t leave without the savory grilled waffle. Really, don’t.
A super bistro on one of Copenhagen’s buzziest streets, serving dishes with the kind of detail you can’t find that often. Casual, friendly and reliable, it’s the kind of spot you instantly adopt as your “place.”
Cosmopolitan energy with a touch of Michelin. Overlooking the city’s most famous square, it’s the perfect place for dinner, a glass of wine, or a detour for their well-known soft serve.
So close to the water you can dip your feet while you wait. Farm-to-table dishes, wine, and even a sauna for when the weather turns aggressively Scandinavian.
An ode to Tuscany, this danish-born, but Italian-raised, this one serves the kind of cooking that tastes like someone’s grandmother is clearly involved.
Its clean Scandinavian interior, relaxed atmosphere, and consistently great dishes make it an instant favorite.
A bustling Italian spot that does it all. Pasta at the bar, wine and crudo with friends, or a long dinner that somehow ends with a DJ playing. Open late and always lively.
The chicken burger featured in The Bear (if you know, you know). Arguably the best in town, and possibly one of the best anywhere.
A feast for the eyes and the belly, this has became our favorite little corner in the city since many years back when we popped-up there during our very early stages.
Artisanal ice cream made with milk from a small dairy farm. The cones taste like cookies, the flavors are spot on, and they do excellent brunch too.
Copenhagen’s first dedicated onigiri spot, with tempura, karaage and more Japanese classics. Fast, fresh and comforting.
For the pure aficionados. Legendary roasts, world-class coffee, and pastries sourced from one of the city’s best bakeries. A proper coffee experience.
Frama’s in-house café, meaning the interior alone is worth the visit. Beautifully presented dishes and excellent baked goods.
Traditional Danish lunch since 1877. Classic smørrebrød, cold beers, and snaps if you’re feeling bold. A time-capsule experience in the best possible way.
